Happy Friday friends! WE MADE IT!
I’m currently wrapping up this post while I watch Gilmore Girls ‘A Year in the Life’ over again. What did you guys think about it? I watched it a while back when it first aired on NETFLIX, and remember being a tad bit disappointed. There were so many things I wish could have been added to the comeback episodes, and so many questions I still had! I know it was a mixed feelings type of thing, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
On another note, it’s taken me ages to create a post like this, and I don’t know why! One of my most frequently asked questions isn’t about style, or makeup, but about my HAIR! Finally, I’m answering your most frequently asked questions about hair! If you have any others that I didn’t cover in today’s post, make sure to leave them below, and I can add them in.
Alright, here we go…
HOW OFTEN DO YOU WASH YOUR HAIR?
My hair tends to be a little more on the oily side. Since high school I’ve been washing it almost every day because I hated the look and feel of oily hair. That all changed as soon as I got to college though and realized that washing my hair every day wasn’t actually all that great for my hair. Every wash was stripping it of it’s natural oils and chemicals, and I was like… 😳. (My mom used to always tell me to take a break in between washes, but did I listen… no. 😜) I usually go a few days in-between washes. (typically 2 or 3!)
Enter Dry Shampoo (**insert this emoji 🙌🏻 here**.) I use Dry Shampoo on days that I’m in between washes, and got hooked on this one while in college. My mom and I also LOVE Living Proof’s formula. Actually, anything by Living Proof (TBH) is among our haircare favorites.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR HAIR CUT?
I’m still on the hunt for a great hair stylist in Austin (any recommendations are more than welcome!!), but while I was living in New York, I loved going to the FOURTEENJAY Salon in TriBeca. (They give you a complimentary hair consultation before your first visit!) Everyone there was so friendly, and welcoming and they are such hair gurus! I felt like a million bucks whenever I’d leave the salon.
WHAT SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER DO YOU USE?
I typically rotate between a few different shampoos and conditioners. But a few tried and true combo’s that I LOVE are Pantene’s PRO-V Micellar Shampoo + Conditioner and OGX Healing + Vitamin E Shampoo & Conditioner. They both give my hair the added moisture that they need while being gentle and not harsh.
WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS TO HAVING HEALTHY HAIR?
This is probably the #1 question that I’ve received the most over the year, and to be quite honest it all comes down to one little thing. Do as little to your hair as you can possibly get away with. My hair looks the way that it does mostly because of my mom (for always telling me how to properly take care of it), I don’t dye it, I rarely blow dry it (air drying is so much better!), and I use heat on it 2-3 times per week max.
Since I have long hair and want it to keep growing healthy and strong, it’s good to get your hair trimmed every 8 to 12 weeks. I learned this the hard way after I started noticing a lot of breakage and split ends. 😳 If you’re hair isn’t as long, every 6 to 8 weeks is great for a trim too!
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HAIRCARE SECRET WEAPONS?
Drybar!! I LOVE a good blowout, and frequented Drybar when I was living in NYC. It’s the perfect solution for those ‘in-between washes’ days and served as the best weekly pick-me-up! Most cities now have blowout options at most salons, so even if you don’t have a Drybar specifically you can still enjoy the treatment! P.S. – Drybar also makes a great Dry Shampoo too!
Applying a leave-in conditioner. (I love this one by Living Proof)
Any others I missed? Leave them below, and I’ll make sure to answer and add them in!
