What’s your favorite thing about summer?
I love summertime☀️ for so many reasons. It brings back wonderful memories of times spent with my family when I was living back at home in Amarillo, makes me crave some of my favorite foods, snacks + drinks that I’d indulge in (who else loves a good snow cone!🍧), takes me back to fun summer getaways, and reminds me of long balmy days at the pool + cool nights cooking out with friends. There’s just nothing like summertime in Texas.
Although I’ve spent countless summers in Texas before, this one will be a little more special because it’s actually my first full summer here in Austin! I’m so excited to check a few of these off of my list (and repeat some!). Here’s hoping I’m able to cover them all!
FLOAT THE RIVER
The first time I ever floated the Guadalupe River was a few years ago for one of my best friend’s joint bachelorette/bachelor party with her and her now hubs + several of our good friends. It was one of the best times I’ve had, and such a fun experience. Our same group from a few years ago is actually planning a reunion trip next month to float the river again, and I can’t wait. This time I’ll be bringing Nathan along, and I’m so excited because he’s never floated the river before. It’s going to be so much fun! 😀
LISTEN TO SOME LIVE MUSIC
Austin is buzzing with music everywhere you go. On the weekends (and during the week), the city is a waterhole for great bands, live shows, and all the outdoor music you could want. I definitely want to make the most of life in Austin by taking advantage of the cities love for music. I’ll be referencing this guide when I’m on the hunt for tunes. 🎸
TAKE A DIP IN BARTON SPRINGS
Barton Springs is one of my favorite destinations to head to during the warmer months. It’s a hot spot during the spring and summer as it serves as the perfect spot to cool down with this crazy Austin heat. Many trips to Barton Springs this season are definitely happening!
HOST A SUMMER BBQ WITH FRIENDS
Nathan and I are moving into our new apartment next month, and our pool is SO NICE! I can’t wait to have friends over and host our first summer BBQ🍗 in our new home. There’s nothing like getting together with friends over drinks, good food, and a little pool time.
KAYAK ON LADYBIRD LAKE
Before I moved to Austin, I always tried to get a little bit of kayaking🚣🏻 in anytime that I would visit the city. I loved being able to rent a kayak for a little while, and float down Ladybird Lake while taking in the beautiful downtown views of the city. When Nathan and I first moved here last year, we did a little kayaking and I can’t wait to do a little more this summer.
EAT, EAT, EAT!!
There are still so many restaurants here in Austin that are on my list to try this summer. From great happy hour spots, to yummy brunch locations, and delicious dinner options… this city is full of great eats. A few spots on my list include: Café No Sé, Franklin Barbecue, Hank’s, Clark’s Oyster Bar, and June’s All Day.
SWIM AT HAMILTON POOL
SO many Austin friends have mentioned that Hamilton Pool this summer is an absolute MUST. It’s about 30 miles outside of Austin, but well worth the trip! (Or so I’ve heard.) This reservation only pool houses a 45 foot waterfall, and large swimming hole. Count me in! 🙋🏻
PICK STRAWBERRIES AT A BERRY FARM
I’m dying to visit one of Austin’s (and the surrounding area’s) berry farms this Summer!🍓 Not only would it be so fun for pictures, but I’ve never actually visited a berry farm before! It’d be so great to load up on some fresh strawberries and then go home and test out my baking skills with a few delicious summer desserts.
TAKE A WEEKEND TRIP TO A WINERY
For my birthday in December, Nathan, my brother, and I drove to Fredericksburg to spend the day there and on our way we passed so many wineries! I’d love to take a weekend trip to either Wimberley or Fredericksburg, and spend the day winery hopping! 🍷
GO ON MORE PICNICS
I love picnics. Nathan and I had our first picnic of the year in April, (see more here!) and it was so much fun. We usually go to dinner and a movie at Alamo Draft-house for date night, but it would be fun to mix things up with an evening picnic too. 😉
