A few of you might already know this if you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while, but… I happen to be a huge plant lover. “Hi everyone🙋🏻♀️, my name is Adriana and I’m obsessed with plants. Feel free to just call me the crazy plant lady!” I’m honestly in love with plants, and there was a period of time last year in Austin that I kept bringing plants home for us!! Nathan is the one that waters and takes care of them, so at one point he was like, “Girl – this has to stop.” 🤣
I’ve always been a big plant person, because of my parents. (They always had plants throughout our home when I was little, and still do!🌿) But, I truly feel as though being with Nathan really brought out my green thumb and an even bigger love for plants. Being a big plant lover himself, he taught me everything I now know about taking care of plants, different types of indoor and outdoor plants, and introduced me to some of my favorite kinds. Which is why I’m so excited to be introducing this new series to the blog: Plant 101! With each plant post, I’ll be sharing everything and anything about plants. Welcome to the first edition!
Benefits of Indoor Plants:
Most of our plant babies are indoor plants, and have been with us since we moved to Austin a little over two years ago! (Thanks to Nathan for watering them, and being the best plant dad EVER!!) Below, I’m sharing a few great benefits that come from having plants at home.
- SERVE AS A MOOD BOOSTER: Whenever I walk into a space filled with plants, it instantly boosts my mood. Plants serve as a natural mood booster and can breathe life into any space. Big or small.
- THEY ADD LIFE TO YOUR HOME: Indoor plants can also serve as the best decor for your home and an inexpensive alternative when it comes to filling an empty space.
- REDUCE STRESS AND COMMON COLDS: Plants have the ability to promote a healthy air quality within your home, helping fight off things that can make us sick.
- PROMOTE HEALTHY INDOOR AIR: Speaking of air quality, plants produce a lot of oxygen. They can absorb toxins, increase humidity, and clean your indoor air.
- PLANTS ARE THERAPEUTIC: Plants won’t replace your therapist, but they can definitely help! Indoor plants help to promote a calm and peaceful environment and give you a feeling of something to care for and nurture. (I love my plant babies!😀)

Favorite Plant Shops in Austin:
- THE NATURAL GARDENER: We love going to the Natural Gardener for big plant purchases for our home. They have an amazing selection of cactuses (cacti) and tropical indoor plants to choose from.
- THE GREAT OUTDOORS: Whenever we lived on South Congress, The Great Outdoors was our go-to spot for succulents, fiddle-leaf figs, and everything in between! Their staff is so friendly too and will pot any plant for you.
- FROND: I LOVE Frond. Their selection is more niche and has similar vibes to Ceremony out in Wimberley. They have a more elevated selection of plants, including our favorite air plants!
- SHOAL CREEK: We love going to Shoal Creek on the weekends. It’s located in one of our favorite Austin neighborhoods and serves as the perfect spot to go plant shopping. They have a great selection of both indoor and outdoor plants, as well as beautiful blooms.
- EAST AUSTIN SUCCULENTS: This trendy East Austin spot is so much fun, and the name says it all! They have an incredible selection of succulents and it’s definitely a go-to for plants, pots, you name it!
P.S. – Sometimes we make the drive out to Wimberley to go to Ceremony. It’s one of my absolute favorite spots. I always end up spending a lot more than I planned whenever I go! (Apart from plants they also carry beautiful home goods and plant books.🌱)
Happy plant shopping!!

I love indoor plants as well, but I have an indoor cat now and she loves to dig in them. 😫. Any helpful hints on keeping her away from my plants?
