Surprise!! We’re moving (back) to New York City!
I am so excited to finally be sharing this news with you. I’ve been keeping it a secret for a few months now, and it’s been the hardest secret to keep. A few of you guessed it before I even shared!
Nathan and I have been thinking about New York since we left New York. We always sort of felt as though this move would be temporary. When we decided to leave the city last year, we did it rather abruptly which is out of both of our nature. We truly believe that if Covid hadn’t happened we would still be in New York right now. We always planned to begin our lives together there. We left the city looking for a little relief and refuge after a difficult season in NYC, and we were also yearning for more time spent with family. We really wanted to fill our cup up again.
Colorado has served as such a wonderful refuge for us and became a place of much-needed solitude and rest. We didn’t know just how much we needed to slow down until we got here. This year has been the first time that I’ve ever actually slowed down. For those who know me, you know that I’m always going going going. I am constantly moving from one project to the next, from one goal to the next, from one dream to the next, and I never quite allow myself the time to slow down. It has never truly been in my nature to slow down, to be honest. The pandemic forced most of us to do so, and Colorado really allowed me to sink into it and enjoy it. It allowed Nate to do the same. We went from always being busy to having so much extra time to relax, be out in nature, read good books, cook delicious meals together, and plan and talk about our future goals over our favorite wine. I will forever look back at this time in Colorado as a time where we found ourselves on a deeper level and grew stronger as a couple.
Why We’re Moving
We’ve had New York on our minds for years. It’s always been the spot where we wanted to land, and we can’t wait to call the East Coast home again. Last year Nathan and I spent a lot of time in the city and also outside the city. We were fortunate to visit places that we had never seen and that were always on our travel list – Upstate New York, The Catskills, beautiful beaches and towns in Connecticut, The Hamptons (Montauk), and Vermont in the fall. To say that we absolutely fell in love with the East Coast would be an understatement. It felt like home away from home. We wanted to start a life there. And since leaving, it has really solidified just how much we desire to be back and how much we can see it being our home.
When We’re Moving
Since we wanted to keep ourselves open to the possibility of going somewhere else after Colorado, we decided to sign a year lease for our house here in Denver, and our lease is up in September. We are planning to begin looking at apartments sometime next month and heading back to NYC in September! (We have a very busy two months ahead of us!!) We’re both so excited to get back in the swing of things after a much-needed and welcomed time of rest in the mountains. I also can not wait to introduce Finn to our New York and take him to all of our favorite spots. I have a feeling our cheerful boy is going to LOVE being a city pup.
Long-term
As of right now, we plan to be in the city for the next few years, allowing ourselves space to live life and go with the flow. Long-term, we would love to buy a house and settle down on the East Coast someday. We have so many favorite spots and places that we love, and I have a feeling it will be hard to decide where we want to land. I have no doubt though that it will be wonderful. I’m so excited to continue to take you on this journey with us, and am looking forward to sharing New York part two with you soon!!
See you again soon, New York!
